We all have to agree to follow certain rules if we are going to use the technology at school. Our district has an Acceptable User Policy that all adults and students sign. Students at RRO read through the AUP and discussed how it was like our Wildcat Hero expectations. Students in 2nd and 3rd grade classes made posters of some of those rules to share with the Kindergarten and First grade classes. We talk about the dangers of electronic waste in computer class, so I try to put in practice good recycling and disposal of electronic waste. On that note, I wanted to share with you a free event for Muskegon County residents.
Classes have been looking at the school's AUP (Acceptable User Policy) and discussing how it is similar to our Wildcat Hero expectations. Your child will be bringing home a purple slip to be signed agreeing to the rules of the AUP and returning it to school. Hopefully, they can explain some of those things in their own words to you. If you would like to look at the AUP you can find it in Appendix N in the school's handbook on the school webpage. Click here to visit the School Handbook.
Oh! It is so great to be back! I have missed the kids and have really enjoyed seeing how much they have grown over the summer! You probably don't notice it when they are with you all the time, but it is such a huge change when I see them the first day! I have to admit that there were a few students that I didn't recognize because they had changed so much. We spent the first week just reviewing classroom expectations and procedures. Really, for me, everything just fits under the Wildcat Hero Expectations: Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible. Students took a little survey to help me learn a little more about them. This helps my out in the classroom so that I can connect the things we learn to their everyday life.
The first graders have been doing research about animals. They have been reading books and searching on websites. Listen to some of the interesting facts they found about their topic. Paige's Horse Facts Bailey's Chicken Facts Hunter P's Penguin Facts Ella's Butterfly Facts Nick's Butterfly Facts Diego's Horse Facts Noah's Butterfly Facts Jocelyn's Dolphin Facts Jordan's Penguin Facts Joli's Butterfly Facts Aydan's Frog Facts Talan's Wolf Facts Ayonna's Butterfly Facts Kaila's Bat Facts Hayden's Horse Facts Hunter's Ladybug Facts Athena's Chicken Facts Tommy's Horse Facts Lucas's Shark Facts Liam's Horse Facts Delaney's Dolphin Facts Elizabeth's Frog Facts Anna's Ladybug Facts Kellan's Chicken Facts Ruth's Horse Facts Leigha's Penguin FactsZachery's Shark Facts Ava's Butterfly Facts Jeremiah's Shark Facts Max's Ladybug Facts Every year Google has a contest for students to draw a Google Doodle based on a theme. This year's Doodle 4 Google theme was on Inventions. The students were asked to design a Google Doodle answering the following question: If I could invent one thing to make the world a better place.... Here are some of the student entries that we sent in for this year's contest. Enjoy! The Lego Robotics Enrichment class has been hard at work programming their robots to do more complex tasks. The most recent one was to program their robot to approach a tee from any distance, figure out if they ball was red or blue, and then to only hit the red ball. This programming requires some advanced blocks like loops and switches. Enjoy some pictures of the students trying to get their robot to accomplish the task. 5th graders have finished the Stepping Up Comics unit. They learned about different strategies they could use to stand up to a bullying situation for someone else or for themselves. They then constructed different comics to demonstrate their understanding of these strategies. They picked their best one to print and wrote a reflection about the comic and about stepping up. Enjoy! First graders are excited with a new website that we have been using in class called Teach Your Monster To Read. This games challenges them to practice their letter sounds, work on blending sounds together to make words, and work on breaking words down to their letter sounds. By accomplishing these tasks they will help their monster earn prizes and get his spaceship put back together again. As you can see from the photos, they are very engaged in this learning game! The great thing about the game is that they can play it at home and it saves their spot when they log in. Many kids have written down their user name and passwords to take home so they can work on it at home. Check it out!
